Harm Reduction Sisters Intern
Boozhoo! My name is Max Bowman. I was born and raised in Bemidji, MN. I graduated from the University of Minnesota Morris with a BA in Spanish and Psychology in 2015, then worked for 5 years as a Mental Health Practitioner at various capacities in Duluth Minnesota and with the Fond du Lac Reservation. I am currently enrolled in the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Master of Social Work program. A descendent of the White Earth Nation of Minnesota Chippewa; I am continually reconnecting with the Indigenous culture from which my family was separated during the Boarding School Era.
As a Two-Spirit individual I feel a duty to empower my community and my neighbors whenever I can be of assistance. I work with people 1-on-1 or in groups with their wellness journey, advocate to policymakers for respectful service delivery, and help to improve program policy which affect people’s wellness/recovery. I am grateful to work with Harm Reduction Sisters, as the organization’s anti-oppressive and trauma-informed practice is consistent with my own values.
